A Napping House

While I have been enjoying living in the same comfortable apartment these past few years, not moving from unkempt and rickety university apartment to another unkempt and rickety university apartment every nine or so months, I still feel far from living in my own home. Naturally, much of this sentiment is derived from the fundamental relationship of a person renting to their rented location, as compared to actually owning, feeling a sense of entitlement and responsibility. When I first moved in, I brought with me an arsenal of furniture and aesthetic embellishments, some gifted to me from my parents, others gleaned from here and there, a few others promptly purchased soon after my arrival. Somehow, although all my furniture and decor had been pulled together hastily and from a variety of sources, some contemporary, some retro, some a bit kitschy, it appeared as though each piece had been fastidiously selected specifically for the space. Everything coordinated in color, texture, shape, and tone.

Although it is warm and comfortable enough, my bed has always been a bit of a disappointment. I can probably attribute that to my propensity to leave the quilts and blankets strewn across the plane, messy, though I do always take care to ensure my pillowcases are quaint, embroidered, and neat. Ever since I was a very young girl, I have dreamed of a canopy bed; for a time, my fantasy was of those histrionically frilly affairs that one would envision belonging to Marie Antionette, or some equally fantastical fairy tale figure far away in some elusive castle. Now, I long for the simple, rustic design of Scandinavian furniture, exemplified in this charming and luxuriously modest bed from a boutique hotel in Copenhagen. Featuring crisp white linens and simple lines, this bed would assimilate into any room, becoming a focal nexus of comfort and beauty. Here, I love the coupling of the simple linens and streamlined structure with the heavy Oriental tapestry, covering the beautifully herring boned wooden floor. Perfection, and would certainly lend to the mentality of an oasis in the heart of the home.
