Outfit for a Monday: Maintaining the Mundane

It appears that my uninspired forays with black and neutrals from last week have bleed into the beginning of this work week as well. Bleary-eyed and longing for a bucolic manorial lifestyle, even with the aristocratic and plebeian divide from watching too many hours of Downton Abbey on Sunday afternoon and evening, Monday morning I could barely rise, let alone construct something creative. So, a basic classic approach to business casual once again proved useful and effective: a black and ivory striped silk blouse, worn with a light camel cable sweater over top.

My lackluster approach to dress lately, bland colors, typical clean lines, almost trite, really, cause me to wonder if there is any parallel with my reluctance to write lately. Despite a series of rather contrived resolutions for the new year, I find that certain dull and practical and sensible neurons, neurons that do not fire, but rather merely chug and crank in a mechanical sense, seem to have metastasized to the others. Ones of passion, of reckless abandon. I must continue to endeavor, to strive; writing this is not shameful, but almost uplifting. Surrender I will not.

  3. You have a beautiful way with words. I wouldn't look at this outfit as having bland colours - I think the striped shirt underneath adds a really dynamic sense of fun and interest to this look. It is classic, sophisticated, but still has energy.

  11. Your thoughts about the neurons are interesting - I love the imagery. Something about it. Also really loving this combo - the camel sweater and the huge statement necklace is such a nice touch. I tend to gravitate toward neutrals/earth tones/black all the time - it's just what I think looks best on me. Some people wear bright poppy colors, I wear neutrals and try to focus on the cuts and details.

Sorry you're not feeling passiony/spontaneous lately... Luckily it sounds like nothing more than a case of the wintertime blahs :)
