Decadence on a Dime: Do It Yourself Glitterized Heels

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, while spending an afternoon with a few friends furiously perusing the wares at a favorite consignment shop local to my hometown, I was introduced to a positively brilliant idea. Diana, childhood best friend and overall amazing lady, was wearing light peach J. Crew ballet flats, coincidentally, discovered at a consignment shop in Richmond, which she embellished with some artfully placed golden glitter. Using modge podge glue and a bucket of loose gold glitter, Diana had encased the toe of her peach ballet flats in sparkle, lending them a marvelous and cheap flair. All she had to invest was some time, allowing each flat to dry and then re-applying an additional glitter layer to ensure optimal shine, and some good old fashioned elbow grease and crafty gumption.

Today, while procrastinating on writing a report, which, important to note, will be read by no one and is merely a formality for my client, I stumbled across these Robert Clergerie for Opening Ceremony suede platform pumps. While parting with over 700$ for a pair of utterly frivolous, albeit beautiful and French-crafted, shoes is not quite reasonable, finding a comparable pair and dousing them with deluge of craft store glitter seems perfectly acceptable. I think I just found myself an activity for my upcoming days to be spent in the Land of Pleasant Living with my parents.

  4. Do it! Do it! If you ever attempt to do a whole shoe, though, MAKE SURE you keep the modge podge as thinly coated as possible. I ruined a pair of platform heels, now adorned with clumpy glitter runs and only appropriate for NYE.
